History

Three decades strong. Three decades Wise.

John Wise stands next to a bright red front loader sometime in the late 90s.

Our founder and namesake, John Wise, started Wise Construction as a carpentry and general contracting company in 1984. Our firm quickly became one of the largest framing companies in Massachusetts with a staff of 80-100 carpenters. By 1987, John was leading teams that consistently met aggressive schedules. They worked double shifts seven days a week and lit jobsites at night to achieve project deadlines. Word spread rapidly that Wise could get any job done on time and with superior quality.

John steadily built the company, adding talented personnel to expand the company’s depth of expertise as the company. By the mid-1990s, Wise evolved from a general contracting and carpentry firm to a full-service construction manager, the model we employ today. It was during this time that Wise began carving its niche as the area’s leading occupied space specialist, completing the most logistically complex work while allowing organizations to remain operable, and uninterrupted, throughout the construction process.

Bigger is not better.
Better is better.

John Wise’s steadfast belief that “better is better” has guided our firm throughout the decades. Today Wise is the Boston area’s leading science & technology, healthcare, and institutional builder. Our focus and dedication relies upon a loyal client base of over 90% repeat clients and a team of talented, invested employees. The Wise legacy has remained unchanged even as the company has scaled up. We take to heart John’s belief in continuous improvement. We’re determined to solve the toughest construction challenges and are committed to building authentic relationships, both internally and externally. And perhaps most importantly, we always share gratitude for what we’ve accomplished together.
